Management Support Consultancy (MSC) Services to The Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project Bangladesh

This complex mega project is located at Mawa over the mighty Padma river on the National Highway N8, comprises a new fixed crossing over the Padma River consisting an approximately 6.15 km long two level bridge with 22 m deck width at upper level, around 14 km river training works and approximately 13.6 km of approach roads and bridge-end facilities, including toll plazas, service areas and offices. The two level steel truss main bridge structure acting compositely with a reinforced concrete deck slab will carry the road traffic on the upper level and rail on the lower level, as well as other facilities including gas, power transmission and telecommunication lines. It will be in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna river basin, located approximately 40 km south west of Dhaka over the National Highway N8 it will connect the Eastern Region of Bangladesh to the Western region of the country with an elaborate road and rail system on both sides. It will have, in addition to the road and rail viaducts, a number of major river crossing bridges and drainage structures, small bridges, under passes, service roads and service areas for residential accommodation. Complex river bank protection/training works of 14 km length will also be constructed. The social and environment impacts will be carefully managed via the implementation of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). BCL is a member of the Consortium of Consultants lead by Rendel (UK) and comprises of Padeco and KEI (Japan) for providing the Management Support Consultancy (MSC) Services for this 2.9 Billion US$ project funded by the Government’s own resources. BCLwas also involved in prefeasibility and feasibility studies at various times since 2000 under funding by Govt, ADB and JICA.
